Psychotherapy

In my psychotherapy practice, I recognize the courage it takes for each person to enter the room and share his or her story. No matter their ages or stages of life, when patients begin the process of psychotherapy, I strive to offer an open and safe atmosphere.  As I come to understand patients’ motivations for entering therapy in the present, I also explore their past experiences and hopes and goals for the future.

My areas of specialization include the treatment of anxiety and depression, family issues, life transitions, and bereavement. Working with adults of all ages, couples and families, adolescents, and young children, I bring a range of experience to each patient and value working with people from diverse backgrounds. As a psychotherapist, it is my commitment to offer a caring professional relationship that encourages growth and supports the development of new skills to empower my patients to face whatever challenges and joys life may bring.

ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZATION

Working with Motherless Daughters

In my experience working with women who have experienced the loss of a mother— recently or long ago—individual psychotherapy can be very helpful. Often times the women I work with may not initially recognize that current feelings of anxiety, depression, agitation, or a general sense of feeling lost may be connected to the absence of their mothers.

Additionally, in my work with children, adolescents, and families dealing with the loss of a mother, I work to address the current needs of each family member. My motherless daughter patients often return periodically at different stages of their lives—from childhood to adolescence or adulthood. I also lead short-term motherless daughter groups for women to come together, share experiences, and gain support.

Working with Couples Dealing with Separation and Divorce

When couples are confronted with the myriad of issues which arise when they are dealing with a separation or divorce, I offer individual, couples, and family therapy to address their needs. If more than one clinician is required, I also facilitate referrals.
